Bret Johnson

I am the Lead Pastor of South Hills Church Community in southern Nevada.

Rev. Bret L. Johnson currently serves as the Lead Pastor of the 5-year old South Hills Church Community in the Las Vegas/Henderson area of southern Nevada. It is his goal to start 20 churches in the next 20 years that will reach 20,000 people for Jesus Christ. South Hills Church Community started in 2001 with just a handful of people and today has a ministry to over 1,000 people per week on their church campus.

Until January of 2000, Bret Johnson served for more than ten years as the Associate Pastor at Redwood Chapel Community Church in Castro Valley, CA (located on the east side of the San Francisco Bay). As Associate, Bret headed the Student Ministries Department, Missions Department and was responsible for many special events. Bret’s ministry to teenagers at Redwood Chapel was extensive with over 400 students in regular attendance each week.

Pastor Johnson has worked with students (Jr. High, High School and College) for the last seventeen years. As a dedicated member of the National Network of Youth Ministries he coordinated church efforts in the Bay Area during the 1990’s. These efforts included huge youth evangelistic events reaching thousands of teenagers each fall. In 1996, Bret spearheaded the Josh McDowell Bay Area Right From Wrong Campaign in conjunction with Santa Clara Valley Youth For Christ. Over 7,000 students attended this campaign. In addition, over 4,000 parents attended the Josh Adult seminars. In 1997, Bret was the Coordinator for the Youth Night of the Billy Graham Crusade and was the MC that evening in front of 55,000 people.

Bret is very interested and has a passion for cross-cultural ministry. He has worked in several countries speaking, teaching and especially leading teams of students to work and serve but in foreign countries. In 1999, Bret wrote a tract in Spanish that was passed out by hand to more than 5,000 people in Mexico City and the southern state of Oaxaca. The evangelistic dramas used by teams lead by Pastor Bret have been presented to thousands of people in Mexico.

Bret Johnson grew up in southern California, attended Whittier College, Talbot Seminary (a graduate school of Biola University in southern California) and is currently pursuing a Doctor of Ministry degree from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School in Deerfield, IL. Bret is married to Sallie (from the Bay Area). They celebrate 20 years of marriage in 2006. They have three children: Kyle (17), Kurt (16) and Kailie (11). Bret loves to play golf, softball, racquetball and they are praying like crazy for a boat to go wakeboarding at Lake Mead!
